DRUG CARTELS AND BORDER SECURITY

Drug Cartels and Border Security A House Homeland Security subcommittee examined the threats posed to the U.S. by drug cartel operations and the current state of border security. Some of the topics discussed included the tactics being used along the southern border to thwart security barriers, and the response by law enforcement agencies. Witnesses included representatives from the Coast Guard, and the Homeland Security and State Departments. The subcommittee is chaired by U.S. Representative Martha McSally (R-AZ)

PRESIDENT OBAMA FAREWELL ADDRESS


President Obama Farewell Address President Obama touched on a number of topics including race relations, partisan divisions, and unity in his farewell address to the nation. Toward the end of his nearly one-hour speech, he got emotional thanking and talking about the first lady and their daughters. Michelle and Malia Obama were both in the crowd and also got emotional. As his presidency ends, he urged all Americans to have hope and push for change where change is needed. The address was delivered at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois. This was the first time that a president had returned to his hometown to deliver the traditional farewell address. Following the address, President Obama, the first lady, and the Vice President Joe Biden were seen greeting and thanking supporters in the crowd.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE





Artificial Intelligence Professor Jennifer Neville talked about the history and future of artificial intelligence and about machine dialog systems called “Chatbots.” Professor Neville focuses her research on machine learning and data mining.

The “AI‐easy vs. AI-hard” was part of “The New Technology Explosion,” the 2016 annual “Dawn or Doom” conference" at Purdue University.
