COMMUNICATORS ON TECHNOLOGY LEGISLATION


Communicators on Technology Legislation

Three members of Congress talked about telecommunications issues and technology legislation, including net neutrality, spectrum auctions, kill switches on cell phones, and Internet and phone scams.

Representatives Joe Barton (R-TX), former chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee, talked by telephone about net neutrality and spectrum incentive auctions, supporting some Democrats and opposing others on related issues over the past week. 

Representative Morgan Griffith (R-VA) and Representative Leonard Lance (R-NJ), members of the Energy and Commerce Committee, were interviewed from Capitol Hill. Representative Griffith talked about kill switches on cell phones. Representative Lance talked about his anti-spoofing bill, intended to block people from tricking seniors into giving up personal information by telephone or over the Internet.

DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY INITIATIVES

Secretary Jeh Johnson talked about the Department of Homeland Security’s initiatives in the areas of counterterrorism, cybersecurity, and border security at an event hosted by the Council on Foreign Relations in New York City.
